Overview
Retreat from the hustle and bustle of Thimphu city to Zhiwa Ling Ascent – Bhutan’s first contemporary concept hotel. Located just outside the centre of the city, Zhiwa Ling Ascent welcomes you to relax in a park-like setting with panoramic views.
HOTEL DESIGN INSPIRED BY BHUTANESE FARMHOUSES
The starting point for the draft design process was a study and analysis of Bhutanese farmhouses. Specific elements of Bhutanese dzong architecture have been incorporated into the design of Zhiwa Ling Ascent but overall the look is modern and polished. Smoothed natural stone, clay masonry and native timbers clad the exterior. The hotel is modest in size with an emphasis on personal connection, created by the many open spaces through out the building. Zhiwa Ling Ascent is an ambitious project conceived by Austrian architect Irene Otto-Reinisch and realized through a joint collaboration between Bhutanese and Austrian project planners.
Guest Accommodation
The hotel features 20 rooms in total – 16 double rooms and four twin rooms. All rooms have lovely views, from which at least two and even three points of the compass can be viewed. Two of the rooms on the second store each have private access to part of the outdoor attic area.
